Scaling up the role of Islamic Finance in the development of the Private Sector

At the 1st panel Scaling up the role of Islamic Finance in the development of the Private Sector, Mr.Donaghy Malone the acting. Deputy Director Entrepreneurship as representative of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Mr.Tarik Malaika Program Lead- Sukuk and Capital Markets of the ICD, Trustbank Amanah CEO Mrs.Maureen Badjoeri and Mr.Bryan Renten, chairman of the Surinamese Trade and Industry Association and the moderator was Mr.Karim Chouchane, Sr.Executive Advisor of Trustbank Amanah.

During this panel, the opportunities that the Surinamese market offers to private local and foreign project owners and investors, the new markets that Suriname wants to develop and what the expectations are from the ICD, as a multilateral development organization that could contribute, are the mechanisms of ICD to support economic development and promote private sector development in the Member States and how the ICD could participate in financing the projects mentioned by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

The Surinamese Trade and Industry Association (VSB), where the private sector is represented, emphasized the private sector, the competitive position of Suriname in the Ease of Doing Business Index, the opportunities and challenges for financing the private sector.

Furthermore, a brief explanation was given regarding Trustbank Amanah, the possibilities, products and services and the Islamic Finance principle. The role that an Islamic bank such as Trustbank Amanah can play in contributing to the financing of the private sector in Suriname was also discussed.
